I want to get more into the mortal kombat story but there's so much. I didn't know there's this much stuff in it. Could someone give me the basics of it if that's even possible? Did everything restart with mk9 or something? That's what I hear Edited by Ssj3vegito96, May 1 2015, 06:32 PM.

MK9 starts at the end of Mortal Kombat Armageddon where Shao Kahn beats Raiden and in a last ditch effort, Raiden uses his amulet to let his past self know about what will happen and basically the plot of MK9 is a revamped MK1, MK2, and MK3 where Raiden attempts to change events to prevent Armageddon from happening. |

That bit of info is a bit extensive lol. You can check out the MK wiki if you want to get all the info about that. In a nutshell though, Shinnok was a fallen Elder God that was banished in to the Netherrealm and he basically wants revenge on Raiden and the other realms hence him going about with his plan at the end of MK9 and MK10 basically revolves around the conflict between Earthrealm and the Netherrealm. |

So what does raiden have to do with it? Why does he want revenge on raiden if the other elder gods are the ones that banished him(?) |

Raiden is an Elder God. He was one of the gods that banished him so I believe. |

Ohh ok. I see now. Raiden is an elder God who needs to take on mortal form when he's in a realm not native to his such as outworld |

Pretty much. MKX has a pretty interesting story so you should try it out. MK9 also had a great story as well. |

There was the Elder Gods. There was also the One Being. The One Being tried to absorb the Elder Gods, but failed and was defeated by the Kamidogu, six weapons the Elder Gods created to destroy the One Being. The One Being got shattered like glass into many pieces, all of these pieces is where the Kamidogu got lost, and the pieces became realms (dimensions), which is the different worlds that exist in the Mortal Kombat games. That's only a summary for the beginning of time and space, imagine what comes. Some time later, in Edenia (one of the many realms), the God protector of this world, Argus, and his sorceress wife Delia, had two kids: Taven and Daegon, but they don't matter right now. Delia started having visions about future events in which powerful warriors would grow too powerful and too numerous, which would bring the Apocalypse for the six realms at some point in history. The Elder Gods demanded to Argus and Delia to create a warrior powerful enough, to attract the other bloodlusted and brawl-thirsty warriors to fight, and get beaten and killed. Argus created a pyramid in the center of Edenia (where Delia predicted the warriors would clash) in which the warrior would be hidden and waiting for the Apocalypse, and Delia created this warrior, as some of us MK fans call... Blaze. ![]() Arguably the most powerful character in the franchise besides the Elder Gods and the One Being. And probably Corrupted Shinnok. However, Delia, unlike his husband who wanted the warriors to die so that they would make no more trouble, decided to design Blaze in a way which the warriors wouldn't be killed, but stripped from their powers. They both decided that the new protector of Edenia would be the one to defeat Blaze, and that means becoming more powerful than before, close to being even more than Blaze, which is already immensely powerful. However the parents made a competition in which the two brothers, their sons, were put to confront Blaze with two armors, one that would decide the warriors' detruction, and the other deciding to strip them from their powers. Only Argus and Delia could choose the outcome, and this became a simple but risky coin toss. Argus also decided to put the two brothers into stasis within mountains guarded by two dragons. The brothers would wake up once Blaze did the same, and gave the signal to the dragons to wake them up. ![]() Orin and Caro, the Golden and Red dragons. Are you lost yet? No? Good, because it might get more confusing later. Some time later, a cruel Elder God decided to become the ruler of Earthrealm because of greed and ultimate power. The other Gods saw this, and sent another young Elder God, called Raiden, who would later become Earthrealm's protector as "Thunder God" being his title in MK human mythology. Raiden noticed Shinnok was using an amulet that kept the Elder Gods out of range and made him capable of transporting to different realms, while also capable of ruining the realms themselves by the mere amulet's presence. After a good fight, Shinnok was imprisoned in the Netherrealm, also known as Hell, although the purpose for this place is merely to be a prison for those who go against the Elder Gods' rules. When Shinnok awoke in the Netherealm, he found himself under attack by Lucifer(yes, Lucifer, as in, SATAN), the leader of the fiery realm. Lucifer used the souls of those whom Shinnok himself had banished to the Netherealm to attack the Elder God. Shinnok was quickly beaten and found himself in the depths of Hell for eternity. The later examined amulet was revealed to be one of the six Kamidogu that got lost in the Realms. The Elder Gods thought of the possiblity of all the Kamidogu being combined into one powerful weapon that would be a threat to all the Realms. Raiden decided to guard the amulet on a temple alongside four guardians based on the elements (basic: fire, water, wind, earth). As long as the amulet was safe, Shinnok wouldn't be sent back from the Netherrealm. Shinnok at one point found Quan Chi on the Netherrealm, a sorcerer capable of being invisible to the Elder Gods' presences. Shinnok and Quan Chi joined forces and started a war in the Netherrealm, and singlehandedly defeated all of Hell. Shinnok became king of the Realm, but wanted more, so he decided to give his second best in command, Quan Chi, the orders to satisfy Shinnok with more territory to rule over. ![]() These two are best buddies. At some point in history, on Outworld, there was an age of suffering for those who had to deal with the reign of the emperor, the Dragon King known as Onaga. Onaga proved to be near invincible, not only by himself, but also because he had a humongous army. Onaga's heart was full of dark magic, which gave him the ability to raise the dead as their servants and soldiers. Onaga wished to be immortal. But since they don't have the dragon balls on the Realms, Onaga decided to put his spirit inside a dragon egg, which would give him immortality and eternal life. However, Onaga's trusted advisor, Shao Kahn, poisoned him due to him not liking to share power. However, unlike Onaga, Shao Kahn wasn't able to lead Outworld as united as Onaga did, which proves that he's a horrible leader. ![]() Onaga is basically Sauron from the LOTR movies. Bad, big, black, pissed-off dude who is just there to be the supreme lord of bad-assery. Shao Kahn ruled for centuries, conquered many smaller mini-Realms (that spawned from the original six Realms), and absorbed the souls out of everyone in there, becoming more powerful. Shao Kahn had plans to conquer Edenia, and under the Elder Gods' rule, he did so, after winning a tournament the Gods created for simple entertainment. Shao Kahn not only won the tournament with his minions, not only did he conquer Edenia, he merged Outworld and Edenia into one, and killed the ruler of the realm, while also taking the Queen and Princess as Wife and Daughter. How? By brain-washing. He has brain-washing powers, barely seen in action though. After this many simple things happened that are now canon in the MK games. From MK1 to MK10, you probably know the basics for the story. |

From that point onwards Shao Khan wanted to take Earth realm by winning the Mortal Kombat tournament there. Since he was forbidden to enter the realm until the tournament was won, he used his champion Goro to fight on his behalf. However Johnny Cage defeated Goro and Shao Khan was forced to come up with a new plan. He had Sonya Blade kidnapped and brought to Outworld to lure the Kombatents there so that he could personally fight in the tournament. However he was defeated by Liu Kang. The third time around he broke the rules and invaded Earthrealm anyway. However this resulted in not only defeat at the hands of Liu Kang but also some sort of punishment from the elder Gods but I might be remembering that part wrong. I don't know anything after that until the events of 9. |

@Darker thanks much for that. That was a great help. Awesome! I have a question though. Onaga was immortal so what exactly does shao khan poisoning him mean? Did he just weaken him a lot or something? Thanks to everyone else too Edited by Ssj3vegito96, May 2 2015, 02:55 AM.

Onaga had the opportunity to introduce himself inside the egg, but Shao Kahn already poisoned him, not killing him, but leaving Onaga knocked out until they woke him up some time later. Onaga did get in the egg, but once it hatched, due to the poison and the fact that Onaga was in there for more than necessary, didn't make him immortal. |

a couple more questions 1. Why did quan chi deceive scorpion? Why did he want him killed? It was all just a way to recruit fighters for the neather realm right? 2. It's really hard to find feats for mortal kombat characters. How powerful are characters like scorpion, sub zero, raiden, etc. Edited by Ssj3vegito96, May 3 2015, 04:09 PM.

1. Quan Chi wanted the Lin Kuei to offer him help and so he destroyed the Shirai Ryu in exchange for their help. He brought Scorpion back from the dead because he was a strong warrior and wanted to recruit fighters for the Netherrealm 2. You're going to have to look to the comics mostly for that. But Reptile is capable of easily dodging Stryker's point blank pistol shots, Stryker is flung by Ermac into the subway and is pretty much fine, Ermac can tear Jax's arms off with no trouble, Raiden can lift a jet and fly with it, Shokan like Goro, Kintaro, or Sheeva can fling massive boulders(30-40 tons in weight) far distances, Sub-Zero once tore off Scorpion's head(don't remember if he was human or not at that point), Shao Kahn can soul rip entire realms, and Kotal Kahn tore off Goro's arms at one point. I'm not too familiar with the MK comics, I'll admit, so I probably missed a lot of stuff |

The comics are canon right? And I take it scorpion and sub zero don't have many feats to go off of? |
